Six hundred pages turned Elvis A. Presley - Music, Man, Myth into a heavy author debut for Marc Hendrickx in 1994. Luckily for him, and the Dutch and French readers who had to lift this heavy tomb, the book weighed heavily in content as well. The outcome could hardly have been predicted...

  • Launch of the book with a concert by the especially assembled 'Presley Saturnighters' in the Antwerp Elisabeth Hall. Also present: Helmut Lotti, The Jordanaires and 2,100 fans.
  • Several hundred, leader-bound special edition copies sold out so fast that hawkers and collectors have had a field day with them ever since.
  • Impressive media-coverage.
  • The radio-series '100 x Elvis' on Radio 1 and Night Radio, an adaptation of the book by Arnold Rypens and author Marc Hendrickx.
  • Bestseller status in Flanders.
  • Bestseller status and reaching of the prestigious 'luxury books top 20' in France.
  • A total sell-out after only six months on the market.
  • An intimistic 'farewell concert' by The Presley Saturnighters (Guido Belcanto, Ludo Mariman, Karel Algoed, Stef Minnebo, Marc Hendrickx and bandleader Norbert Detaeye) in a red-hot Honky Tonk Bunker, Dendermonde.

At the request of record company BMG, the author tackles the subject Elvis Presley a second time in 1997. Together with MBP, he produces the bonus CD, Moody Blue, for the luxury release entitled The Complete Elvis, and writes an inlay for the hit collection, Always Elvis. The latter goes to number one for two weeks. A remembrance program dubbed The Night of Elvis is a success as well, and reaches a number of the regular amount of nightly listeners. In 1998 Music, Man, Myth rises from the ashes to appear on the Dutch market in a massive print-run. Here too, the 'sold out' sign can be raised only six months later. Right after, France sees Musique et vie d'un mythe reappear in the form of a unique series of 'fascicules': A4-format magazines counting 32 pages accompanied by 15 track BMG CDs. The project covers thirty issues and comes to an end in the spring of 2000. At the same time, the author complies with a number of lectures dealing with such themes as Modern Music, Modern Myths, Entertainer of the Century? and Musical and Sociological Revolutions. At the brink of a new century Presley admirers also get King of Belgium - a new CD project in cooperation with BMG - and Elvis Presley, Richard Nixon and the American Dream, the first Hendrickx manuscript to find a receptive audience in the U.S.A. (more information on this title can be found under 'Nixon') In 2002 the author lends a helping hand in the making of the Helmut Lotti TV Special 'My Tribute to the King'. In 2003, a first German edition, with both regular and deluxe versions, sees the light of day.

The summer of 2007 then sees a fully updated and refreshed “thirty years later” edition come out in Dutch, both as a regular book release and in a box with additional dvds. Both editions do very well, and the author extensively tours the lecture circuit. All that seems to be left to do now is an English language release. If that is forthcoming?
